Annabeth Scarlett - Initial 3D Character Design

At first I designed the character in Blockbench, my main focus was to ensure that the outfit and body type fit well together. I didn't have much time to develop the character at this stage.

Annabeth Scarlett - First Pose Test

In order to inject some character and life into the design, I tested different poses, this was the one I ultimately decided to use going forward.

Annabeth Scarlett - Pose and Scenery

After refining some more elements I made sure to make a space for the character to appear in, I chose a train station to communicate the melancholy of waiting.

Annabeth Scarlett - Background

In order to further present the aesthetics of certain video games I chose to use a flat background to communicate a certain sense of unreality. I wanted to make a work that uses the language of video games as part of a narrative element.

Annabeth Scarlett - Sprite Sketch

After finishing the "(The) Melancholia (of Annabeth Scarlett)" I decided to explore what the pose and character would look like in 2D rather than the 3D I was previously working in. After making this I realised that, if I were to make a game or game mock-up I would want to make it using pixel art. This the 2D focus of the current project was born.
